pakistani unversities ( University of Malakand)
University of Malakand is a higher education institution, established in 2001 which is located at Chakdara in the Dir district of North-West Frontier Province (NWFP), Pakistan. It is located on the bank of the river Swat.
The need for University in Malakand division has been a felt need since 1972 but due to political polarizations between different political parties, the idea could not be materialized until 2001.
The present site for establishing a university was proposed by the Ex. Governor NWFP Mr. Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah. Prof: Dr. Lutfullah Kakakhel former advisor to Governor, NWFP is the key person in establishing of this institution.
After the announcement some legal points were raised by the provincial law department regarding establishing a university in the PATA (Provincially Administered Tribal Area) under Article 247 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, a very old impediment in opening a University in the area since 1973.
The issue was resolved by the Honorable Governor by referring the case to the President to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan who permitted the university through a Presidential order/ Regulation. Hence, in a sense this is the only university in Pakistan chartered/ established by the highest seats of power in the country, the President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Governor NWFP.
The provincial Government, through a Gazette Notification No P-III dated 27 Oct 2001 (Extra Ordinary) formally announced a University for Malakand division on the premises of the defunct D.F.I.C at Chakdara.
Pakistani universities (NUST)
National University of Sciences and Technology, commonly known by its acronym NUST, is a public university that was primarily founded by the Government of Pakistan in 1991 to train members of the Pakistan Armed Forces after merging together previously established military institutes and colleges.[2] After getting chartered in 1993,[2][3] NUST soon established its place in the list of the best engineering universities in Pakistan.[4] NUST is multi-school university with its headquarters initially located in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. In 2008, the headquarters were shifted to the newly constructed campus in Islamabad. Other campuses are situated in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Risalpur.

It offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees leading to PhD in the fields of engineering, information technology, medical sciences, and management sciences. NUST is affiliated with Pakistan Engineering Council and Higher Education Commission Pakistan.[5][6] In 2009, NUST was ranked as 350th best University in the world by THES World University Rankings.[7]
After the separation of Pakistan in 1947, the training of military corpsmen became one of the top priorities of the Government. In 1947, Military College of Signals was established as School of Signals to enhance professional competency of Corps of Signals by imparting high quality training in the field of telecommunications. A year later, in 1948, Military College of Engineering (MCE) was established at Sialkot to train the corps in the field of engineering. In 1951, MCE was given a status of college and was shifted to its present location in Risalpur. On 1 April 1809, College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (CEME) was established at Quetta as EME School and a few years later in 1962 PNEC was established in Karachi. To train the members of Pakistan Air Force, College of Aeronautical Engineering (CAE) was established at Korangi Creek, Karachi in 1965. All these schools and colleges were developed only to train the army and work independent of each other back then. In 1969, EME School was given the status of College and civilians were admitted in the college. In 1976, College of Medical Sciences was established as Army Medical College (AMC) and a year later in 1977 first MBBS course started there. In the same year School of Signals was upgraded to college. In 1981 BSc program started at CEME giving it the status of a university and a few years later in April 1984 CEME moved to its current location in Rawalpindi from Quetta. In May 1986, CAE was shifted to PAF Academy in Risalpur.
Founding of NUST
Formed by pooling together military and civil educational resources, NUST was established in 1991 by the Government of Pakistan. After its development, already existing military schools and colleges became constituent colleges of NUST. The first college to get affiliated with NUST was MCS in 1991. In 1993, the university was granted chartered and CEME and MCE became part of the university. In December 1994 and November 1995, CAE and PNEC became constitutes of NUST respectively. All the constituent colleges were upgraded, in September 1997 MS program was started at CAE, in 1998 MS program was started at PNEC and in the same year Bachelor of Dental Surgery was started at AMC. In 1999, CEME and CAE attained ISO 9001 Certification, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (SEECS) was launched in Islamabad, and NUST Business School (then known as NIMS) was established.
Recent developments
In 2003, CEME further improved its quality and received ISO 9001-2000 certification. In the same year, Center for Cyber Technology and Spectrum Management was launched in Islamabad. In May 2004, Center for Advanced Mathematics and Physics was created. PhD program started at CEME in 2006. In 2007, Center of Virology & Immunology was developed to increase research in the field of medical sciences in Pakistan. Recently in 2008, a new campus was developed in Islamabad. Some old colleges are being shifted to this campus and many new schools are developed such as School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, School of Chemical and Materials Engineering, School of Mechanical and Manufacture Sciences, and Research Center for Modeling and Simulation.

universities of pakistan (IIU)
The International Islamic University, an international seat of Islamic learning in Pakistan to provide every opportunity for an all round and harmonious development of individuals and society and reconstruction of human thought in all its forms on the foundation of Islam.
The foundation of the International Islamic University, Islamabad was laid on November 11, 1980. The desire to produce scholar and practitioners, imbued with Islamic Learning, character and personality, and capable to meet the economic, social, political, technological and intellectual needs of the Muslim Ummah was the raison d'ĂȘtre of this university. The University was reconstituted as International Islamic University, Islamabad with the promulgation of ordinance No.xxx of 1985. The University is currently ranked at 3657 in the world.[1]
It is completely distinct from the International Islamic University in Malaysia, although the two intitutions may pursue similar aims.
Old Campus
The university's Old Campus is located around the popular Faisal Mosque, a symbol of international Islamic brotherhood and unity. It was designed by a famous Turkish architect and was donated to the university by late King Faisal of Saudi Arabia. The mosque is spread over an area of 189,705 sq.meters and can accommodate about 80 thousand people.
New Campus
The New Campus is located in Sector H-10 of Islamabad. That whole sector is given solely to this university. Construction of the first phase was completed in February 2003 and this has enabled the university to expand its academic programs. A separate Women's Campus has also been established. Central Library construction was completed in 2006, along with the Lincoln corner.
The Government of Pakistan very generously allotted Islamabad, Sector H-10, comprising 704 acres (2.85 km2) of land, to enable the University to construct and shift to its own new premises and meet its ever increasing needs.
At present three academic blocks while two under construction and Eleven hostel blocks (Seven for male and Four for female) have been completed 'and all University faculties are now functioning in new buildings with effect from January, 2002. In addition one academic block and two hostel blocks have also been completed and became functional for the Women Campus of the University.
As envisaged in the Master Plan of the new campus, the University will be completed in phases of which Stage-I of Phase-I has reached culmination while stage-II is nearing completion. When constructed in its entirety, the University will accommodate 30,000 students (20,000 male and 10,000 female) in 22-25 faculties. In addition, there will be 57 hostel blocks for male students and 28 for female and partial accommodation for teaching/research and administrative staff.
The layout of the campus and all the buildings to be constructed there have been designed by renowned architects. Due regard has been paid to landscaping and providing a suitable background to all the structures. The architectural is a judicious blend of the modern and traditional Islamic styles, in keeping with the spirit of the International University.
Apart from the administrative blocks and teaching departments, the buildings of the various institutes and academies and the hostels, there is to be a beautiful central mosque and a unique central library. Provision has been made for a commercial center and shops for the resident staff and the students. Altogether the total campus when complete will be an attractive addition to the existing architectural charms of Islamabad.
pakistani universities University of Sindh)
The old campus of the University of Sindh when it was relocated to Hyderabad functions as a constituent college overseeing university examinations. The building is regarded as a cultural landmark in the city.
After the partition, the only functioning university in the newly founded nation of Pakistan was the University of Punjab providing services to the developed parts of the Punjab province. The area constituted as the Sindh province came under the academic coverage of University of Bombay which had now become a part of India.
A formal academic centre was therefore needed for Sindh and under the constitutional act no. XVII titled 'University of Sindh', a resolution was passed by the Legislative Assembly of Sindh thus giving birth to this new university in the nation's capital of Karachi.[1][4] The act was subsequently revised and modified in 1961 and years to come. However, it was the act of 1972 that provided for greater autonomy and representation of teachers, under which the university currently functions.
In the years after the partition from 1947 to 1955, Hyderabad was declared as the capital of Sindh and the university operations were relocated from Karachi to Hyderabad in 1951[4]where it formally started functioning as a teaching institution in pursuit of fulfilment of its charter and mission to disseminate knowledge.[1]
The first department established was the 'department of education', later raised to the status of 'faculty of education'. The departments of basic science disciplines as well as other departments targeted towards humanities and social sciences were added in the mid-50s. With the sudden departmentalised growth of the university's organisational structure, a better equipped campus was desired and a new campus was established in Jamshoro town, 15-kilometres from the city of Hyderabad on the right bank of the Indus river in 1955 and was named after Allama Imdad Ali Imam Ali Kazi, former vice-chancellor of the university as a tribute to the great scholar and visionary. Before Jamshoro was selected for the establishment of Sindh University, is was desolate hilly track but was selected to be a university township away from the humdrum of the city of Hyderabad which lacked room to meet the ambitious expansion programs.[5] Most of the teaching departments under the 'faculty of science' were then shifted to this new campus in 1961. Later in 1970, the departments for arts and humanities followed suit and were transferred to the new campus.[1]
Interestingly, Jamshoro proved a good choice as it is virtually the gate-way to the Indus Valley, world famous for its civilization and rich cultural heritage. The Arnica Fort is located 40 km. to the north of the campus, in the northward continuation of the same hilly track which become Laki Ranges, merging with the Khirthars northwards. Amri, an important archaeological site, lies about 15 km further north. Sehwan, a well known township lies 25 km to the north of Amri. Manchar Lake, the largest fresh water lake in the region, is situated to the west north west of Sehwan. Travelling about 150 km north through the Indus plains brings one to the site of Mohenjodaro, the most important archaeological discovery of the Indus Valley.[5]
The academic march forward continued with the gradual addition of other teaching departments and at present there are 43 full-fledged teaching institutes, centres and departments functioning under various academic faculties. The latest editions were that of the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering and the Centre for Environmental Sciences, which heralded a new era in scientific research in the country.

The University of Karachi was established through the parliament as a Federal University in 1951. However, through another act of the parliament in 1962 its status was redefined as university of the province of Sindh. On 23 October, 1950 the Karachi University Act was passed and after an amendment in 1951 it was enacted. For the first two years, the University of Karachi remained as an examination University for the affiliated colleges. In 1953 it started its teaching and research activities at two Faculties of Arts and Science. Opened with an initial intake of 50 students, the university is now a sprawling structure of 53 Departments and 20 Research Centers and Institutes, under eight faculties of Arts, Science, Islamic Studies,Engineering, law, Pharmacy, Management and Administrative Sciences and Medicine. At present the enrolment of regular students at the Campus is slightly over 24,000. There are about 700 faculty members and more than 2500 supporting staff.
On 18 January 1960 the university was shifted to the new campus on a plot of 1279 acres located on the Country Club Road (now University Road).

[edit] History
The University of the Punjab came into existence as a result of a long drawn struggle of the people of Punjab after the Indian War of Independence in 1857. Joseph Lwe was the founder of the university. Contrary to the three previously established universities, which were only examining institutions, the University of the Punjab was both teaching as well as examining body right from beginning.
From its formation in 1882 until 1947, the University of the Punjab served the educational needs of the entire region of pre-partition Punjab and northern India. Mohindra College, Patiala was the first college of higher learning to affiliate with University of Punjab in 1882; followed by St. Stephen's College, Delhi. The partition of India in 1947 reduced the geographical jurisdiction of the university. The current Institute of Administrative Sciences was created in 1962.
Many major institutions that were previously affiliated to Punjab University have now become independent universities on their own, such as Government College University and Medical and Engineering Colleges.

Karakoram International University was established in 2002 by a charter from the Federal Government on the orders of President Pervez Musharraf.
The University is situated against a dramatic backdrop of steep mountains at the confluence of the Gilgit and Hunza rivers.
The main and currently the only campus of the university is located in Gilgit, the central town of the entire Northern Areas. Gilgit has an airport, providing daily flights to Islamabad, punctuated only by adverse weather conditions. The famous Karakoram Highway (KKH), formerly known as part of the Silk Route, runs all the way for Islamabad to the Khunjarab Pass (the Chinese border), passing through Gilgit. An offshoot of the KKH connects Gilgit with Skardu (Baltistan).
Gilgit gets very hot in June and July, whereas it is severely cold in December and January. However, travel by road and by air continues throughout the year.
The campus, situated on the University Road, is easily accessible from the airport and the bus station. Taxis are found all around the town and are a convenient way of transport.
According to its charter, KIU is to be a multi-campus university and is to seek to establish its various campuses where feasible, according to the availability of special support, local resources and indigenous expertise. Currently it has nearly 2000 students with one-third females, 80 faculty members and nearly 200 staff members.
